Learning Societies

We work with countries to improve the use of evidence in policy and practice and ensure that programs designed to improve children’s learning and education are grounded in evidence.

We work in partnership with government, researchers, industry, and communities in Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Switzerland, and Colombia to support the generation and application of evidence in policy and practice.

Drawing from our experiences with the Transforming Education in Côte d’Ivoire (TRECC) program in Cote d’Ivoire and our Early Childhood Program in Switzerland, the Learning Societies portfolio consists of three interlinked programs that contribute to a national architecture for systemic change:

  • Education Evidence Labs (EdLabs): These coalitions, comprised of multiple partners, are dedicated to promoting the creation and use of rigorous evidence. Their primary objective is to ensure that national policies and their practical implementation are firmly rooted in evidence-based research. For example, in Switzerland, we are supporting the creation of the Digital Education for Equity in Primary Schools (DEEP) research consortium, focused on digital education in primary schools.
  • Communities of Change: This initiative empowers community-led transformation processes, with a specific focus on introducing and implementing evidence-based teaching and learning practices at the school district level. For example, we are supporting the use of evidence as part of the government’s Communities of Excellence program in Ghana.
  • Co-Funding Mechanisms: Our innovative co-financing instruments, such as the Child Learning and Education Facility (CLEF) in Cote d’Ivoire, unlock substantial financial support to enhance the sustainability of research efforts and the implementation of evidence-based programs in each country.

Our country engagements are led in collaboration with leading domestic organizations serving as critical backbone entities, ensuring coordination and alignment across all program elements and partnerships.
